Digital rock morphology analysis

Application ID: 140411

Digital Rock technology uses high-resolution imaging (e.g., SEM & X-ray CT) to characterize pore structures of rock cores, allowing for pore-scale modeling of reservoir rock and insights into pore morphology, connectivity, and fluid transport pathways. These analyses are useful for reservoir evaluation, development planning, and injection–production strategy design, with broad applications in unconventional reservoirs such as shale gas and tight sandstone. This COMSOL model provides a complete workflow—from geometry import and mesh generation to morphology extraction and flow simulation. This model computes effective pore volume and porosity, and extracts pore size distributions. The accompanying App provides intuitive result visualization and interactive interfaces for parametric studies. This model provides a robust and extensible platform for digital core analysis in complex geological settings.
