Using AMD® Optimizing CPU Libraries (AOCL) in COMSOL Multiphysics version 6.2

Description

Version 4.1.1 of AMD Optimizing CPU Libraries (AOCL) is a custom AOCL build optimized for COMSOL that is included in COMSOL Multiphysics version 6.2 as alternative BLAS and LAPACK libraries.

When using AOCL 4.1.1 on computers equipped with AMD Zen 4-based processors (AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ PRO 7000 WX-Series, 4^th Generation AMD EPYC™ Processors), we have measured a significant performance boost for many models compared to when the default BLAS library is used. To enable the use of AOCL 4.1.1 by COMSOL Multiphysics 6.2 on AMD Zen-based processors, do the following:

Windows

Right-click the COMSOL Multiphysics 6.2 icon and select Properties. At the end of the Target: field, add

-blas aocl

. The whole Target field should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\COMSOL\COMSOL62\Multiphysics\bin\win64\comsol.exe" -blas aocl

Linux

Start the COMSOL software with the command

comsol -blas aocl
