Error: Please close the COMSOL window in SOLIDWORKS before synchronizing the geometry

Problem Description

When I try to synchronize the geometry between COMSOL and SOLIDWORKS, the error message

Please close the COMSOL window in SOLIDWORKS before synchronizing the geometry.

is displayed.

Solution

This error has been fixed in version 5.6 and newer. For COMSOL 5.5 follow these instructions:

This error may occur sometimes when a geometry is edited inside SOLIDWORKS between subsequent synchronizations.

To resolve this issue, download and run the comsol_5.5.0.359_llsw_win.exe file below.

1. Make sure that you have COMSOL Multiphysics version 5.5.0.359 installed on your computer. Start COMSOL Multiphysics, then on the File menu, click Help then About COMSOL Multiphysics to check your version. If you are running COMSOL 5.5 but have an earlier build number, go to the File menu, choose Help, then Check for Product Updates, then follow the instructions to update the software before running the exe file.

2. Close all running instances of SOLIDWORKS.

3. Run comsol_5.5.0.359_llsw_win.exe. Set the Destination folder to the COMSOL 5.5 installation directory, for example C:\Program Files\COMSOL\COMSOL55.
