Unexpected Error Thrown by the Method Editor

Problem Description

I run COMSOL Multiphysics on Windows 7. When trying to access the Method Editor in the Application Builder, I get an unexpected error.

When opening the log file, the top of the stack trace looks like this:

2018-01-10T15:33:59.408+01:00 The invocation of the constructor on type 'ActiproSoftware.Windows.Controls.SyntaxEditor.SyntaxEditor' that matches the specified binding constraints threw an exception.
2018-01-10T15:33:59.413+01:00 at System.Windows.Markup.XamlReader.RewrapException(Exception e, IXamlLineInfo lineInfo, Uri baseUri)

Solution

This issue arises from a problem caused by The Microsoft .NET Framework January 2018 Security and Quality Rollup (KB4055532) that was released on January 9, 2018.

On January 18, a new version of that Security and Quality Rollup was released. Thus, make sure to install the new version of KB4055532 if you have not done so already.

If that does not solve the issue, please try the following:

• In the Windows Update dialog, select Installed Updates

• In the list of installed updates, locate and uninstall the update called KB4055002.

• Install the replacement update KB4074880 from Microsoft's homepage
