Problem Description
The COMSOL Multiphysics tab and the Parameter Selection button are not available in the PTC Creo Parametric user interface, and parameter names are not synchronized to COMSOL.
Solution
For parameter selection to work in PTC Creo Parametric an add-in needs to be loaded by PTC Creo Parametric. If the add-in is loaded and running a COMSOL Multiphysics tab appears in PTC Creo Parametric.
Another way to check if the add-in is running in PTC Creo Parametric is to select the Tools tab then to click the button Auxiliary Applications. In the dialog box with the same name, LiveLink for COMSOL should be listed as running. Click the Info button to get more info about the add-in. The paths listed there to the COMSOL installation have to be correct for the add-in to be loaded.
Problems that might result in the add-in not being loaded are that PTC Creo Parametric is installed after the COMSOL installation, PTC Creo Parametric is updated or installed in a different location, or that the COMSOL installation is moved.
PTC Creo Parametric finds this add-in based on the information in a file called protk.dat
. The file contains the path to the COMSOL installation (in two locations). The COMSOL installer places this file in a folder relative to the Common Folder of the PTC Creo Parametric installation, which you have specified during installation of LiveLink for PTC Creo Parametric. This folder is typically:
For PTC Creo Parametric 5.0: C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 5.0.3.0\Common Files
For PTC Creo Parametric 4.0: C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 4.0\M080\Common Files
For PTC Creo Parametric 3.0: C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 3.0\M190\Common Files
For PTC Creo Parametric 2.0: C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 2.0\Common Files\M150
From here the installer knows to place the protk.dat
file into \text\protk.dat
Edit the protk.dat
file to update the paths to the COMSOL installation.
In case you are missing the protk.dat
file, you can download it below. After editing it, place the file in the appropriate folder as outlined above, and rename the file to protk.dat
. If you have other add-ins defined in a protk.dat
file in the mentioned location you need to append the information about the add-in to the existing file. This also includes other COMSOL add-ins.
Note that if you use any of the files below on 32-bit Windows you will need to change win64
to win32
where it appears on the row starting with exec_file
COMSOL 5.1 is the last version to support 32-bit Windows.
Restart PTC Creo Parametric for the new settings to take effect.
