What are the capabilities of only COMSOL Multiphysics without add-on?

Can I use COMSOL without Purchasing add-on modules such as AC/DC, CFD?

Yes! In fact, in the much earlier versions of this software, no add-on modules even existed. And the Comsol website still declares "The platform product can be used on its own..." If you are mathematically-minded, enjoy working at the level of the partial differential equations, and don't want to spend a lot of $$ for various modules, then this could be the right choice for you. BUT in many cases, it is easier and faster to make use of one or more specialized modules. It's a little like asking if you can live in a hot climate without air conditioning, or in a house without indoor plumbing, or using oil lamps instead of electric lights, etc. So... yes you can, but just don't expect to be as comfortable or to get as much work done as easily or as quickly.
