Initial Value Perturbation

I have a 3D model that runs well from time t0 until time t1, then everything after t1 becomes very difficult for COMSOL to solve and error begins to play a very large role. I would like to have a time dependent study1 that runs from from t0 to t1, then grab the from t1, add a ~1% perturbation, and run study2 from time t1 until time t2 with the perturbed t1 values as the initial conditions . How would I go about doing this?

Note: I have very steep spacial gradients in all 3 dimensions, so applying a scalar average as an intial value to the entire domain is not an option I would need the initial values as a function of space.
