The noise emitted from an electrical machine can have many sources. In this example, acoustic noise from vibrations created by magnetic force variation is studied. Such noise is often audible at twice the excitation frequency but can also occur at higher frequencies or harmonics of the excitation frequency.

The model demonstrates how to couple Magnetic Machinery Time Periodic with Solid Mechanics and Acoustics to produce a Campbell diagram. The results give insight into which of the magnetic force harmonics creates the most prominent motor noise at various speeds. These results are also correlated with the natural frequencies of the motor structure.
