Elastoplastic Low-Cycle Fatigue Analysis of Cylinder with a Hole
Application ID: 2200
A load carrying component of a structure is subjected to multi-axial cyclic loading during which localized yielding of the material occurs. In this model you perform a low cycle fatigue analysis of the part based on the Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) model.
Due to localized yielding, you can use two methods to obtain the stress and strain distributions for the fatigue evaluation. The first method is a full elastoplastic analysis with kinematic hardening, while the second is a linear elastic analysis with Neuber correction for plasticity. This example explores the first method. In the model “Notch Approximation to Low-Cycle Fatigue Analysis of Cylinder with a Hole”, the same problem is solved using the elastic approach.
This model example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
- COMSOL Multiphysics® et
- Module Fatigue et
- Module Structural Mechanics et
- soit le Module Geomechanics, ou Module Nonlinear Structural Materials
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Grille des Spécifications and make use of a free evaluation license.
