Acoustic Treatment Boundary Calculator
Application ID: 118611
This app allows to calculate the absorption coefficient and surface impedance of a sound absorbers for normal and random incidences. The computed quantities can be used when setting up boundary conditions in a Pressure Acoustics, Frequency Domain model or a Ray Acoustics model.
The configuration of the absorber is flexible. The sample under study can be chosen to be a porous or solid material, and it can be backed with an air cavity, a porous cavity, or rigid condition. The thickness and depth of the different elements can also be adjusted as needed.
The app contains a conversion of the results from frequency to time domain with the Partial Fraction Fit function. This makes it possible to use the calculated surface impedance as boundary condition in time domain simulations. The surface admittance calculated for the fitting can be saved and later imported in a separate model to describe the impedance of a boundary.
This application example illustrates applications of this type that would nominally be built using the following products:
however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products. To determine the right combination of products for your modeling needs, review the Grille des Spécifications and make use of a free evaluation license. The COMSOL Sales and Support teams are available for answering any questions you may have regarding this.
