releasing particles from domain or inlet

What is the difference between "release particles from whole domain using release" and "release particles from Inlet boundary (considering all the boundaries)"?
I released 1000 particles one time just releasing from domain and the next time considering all the boundaries as inlet and I got different results?
I am wondering why there should be different because both of them they show using same equation.
Hope to hear your answers.
I used particle tracing for fluid flow-using massless formulation
