position dependent subdomain value

Hi,

Is it possible to vary a value (e.g. the initial stress of a beam) depending on the z-position in it?
An approximation would be to split the beam into several layers with a changing constant value. But this is of course bad in any way (not correct, time consuming, mesh, ...)

So i would like to write a formula inside of a layer like: "2*z+1"

thank you for any help.

yes, comsol allows you to use expressions instead of constants when you define your model. so equations like "2z+1" should work so long as you define your "work-plane settings" (under the Draw menu) to reflect that the width of the beam is along the z-axis!

Cheers
