Modelling laser heating across a small volume

I am very new to Comsol so my understanding of how to do things is somewhat limited, so my apologies if I am missing anything really obvious!

I am trying to simulate the temperature gradients induced by laser pulse absorption in silicon. The example models I have found thus far have treated the laser absorption as a 2D heat source at the material surface with a Gaussian profile. However I am interested in particular in the temperature gradient in the first few tens-hundred nm of the surface, and as such ideally I would like to model the 'heat source' as the volumetric element in which the laser is absorbed.

Is there an easy way of doing this in version 5.0? I have the laser heating module as well as the heat transfer module, however none of the examples I have found so far utilize the laser heating one.

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated,

The best way to get help with your simulations is to directly contact our technical support team. To do this, please log into your COMSOL Access account on our website: www.uk.comsol.com/access.

Once you have done this, click on the ‘Request Support’ button. This will open a dialogue box which will allow you to send your questions directly to our technical engineers. You can also attach model files or other documents to this request, which can help to provide our technical engineers with more information on your problem.

Please note, the technical support service is only available to those using a subscribed, research licence or an active trial licence. When you create a case, you are asked which licence you are using, so please include the 7 digit licence number when submitting a case. If you are not sure what licence you are using, open the software and follow the route: File > Help > About COMSOL Multiphysics. This will open a pop-up window with your licence number.
