surface integration direction

hi
I am simulation the capacitance of different pieces of metal. When I choose the surface of metals and do integration of surface charge, I always get a zero. It seems it is doing calculation on surface of metal pointing inside.
My question is how to define/choose which direction of surface to do integration?
Thanks!
The version I am using is 4.0a.
