Residence Time

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I ran a simulation of a polymeric solution inside the metering section of an extruder by using a creeping flow. Afterwards, I implemented the particle tracing module, because I am interested in the residence time of the flow in the extruder, this means how much time the different particles need to exit the extruder.

I already added the auxiliary dependent variable: d(rp)/dt = 1 in the particle tracing module, but I do not know how to illustrate the residence time afterwards.

Is it in the derived values interface? Which sub-interface do I have to choose? When I select e.g. for global evaluation "particle 1" as data set, "last" as time selection and "rp" as expression, I get an error (failed to evaluate variable).

Thanks in advance for the help

I'm having the same exact problem at the moment! I see your question was back in 2013 and never answered :/ Well, hopefully I can find some help on the issue soon!

All the best,
Karl

Karl,

You can use Histogram plot to visualize residence time distribution, as shown in the attached image.

Hi,

If I have histogram plot for the residence time distribution, then what does it mean?
