How to describe complex wave velocity

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi all,

I got a question when I was doing the simulation of a leaky wave propagate on the structure surface, the leaky wave has a complex wave velocity, since the wave energy will attenuation in the wave propagation direction. The wave velocity is calculated as : v=frequency*wavelength, as my wavelength is fixed, which means the calculated frequency should be a complex value. I'm using the structural mechanical module, piezoelectric effect. Does anyone know how to deal with this situation? Any suggestion is warmly welcome :-)
