Help with material selection

Please look at the attached file. I want to:
1. make the block to be of silicon.
2. the lines on the surface will be carbon.
How do I do this?
P.S. the problem I am facing right now is: when I select the block to be of silicon, the lines turn into silicon by default.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
You can assign materials to different dimensions by choosing different geometric entity levels.
