Standard deviation of volume in a chemical species dilution model

I'm modelling a microfluidic mixer but I'm having trouble generating results. When I integrate over a volume of a ball selection that I created within the channel to find the standard deviation of the concentration within that volume, I get the same value in the begining of the channel as I do at the end of the channel.
So my question is: How do I take the standard deviation of the concentration within a specified volume? And how should I split up my channel into these smaller volumes?
Thanks for your help,
Michael
