Current flowing in resistive material how to find surrounding field

Hello,
I have a simple model (attached) where I have a aluminum disk that has two contact potentials and current flowing through it. Eventually I would like to add other grounded electrodes in the surrounding space, but as soon as I include a surrounding box that I specify as 'air' COMSOL says it can't solve the problem.
What exactly is going wrong when I just have air surrounding my part? In the attached file, just turn the surrounding cube back to enabled to see what I mean. Thanks!
