Volume heat source in 3D model issue

my model consists of a semiconductor square slab (3D 3mmx3mmx2um) with two metal pads (2D thin conductive layers) on the top surface. The pads are divide by a gap of 10 um. The heat source is a laser impinging on the the gap on the top surface. The light is absorbed according to Lambert law and the beam x-y profile is gaussian. In order to make a good mesh with sweep, I divided the slab voulme in 3 domains, one central containing the narrow gap and two triangular, corresponding to the volume below the metal pads. In this way the mesh is very fine where the laser is impinging.
Since the metal pads completely reflect the laser, for the volume laser heat source (W/m3) I selected only the central domain (which has not masked surface), however in this way the T is higher than what I have if all the three domains are selected. This sounds starnge since selecting only one domain less power should be absorbed, indeed part of the top surface is masked by the pads. It looks like selecting only the central domain the heat is more trapped and does not flow well laterally in the adjacent domains.
