Previous Solution Operator for Solid/Powder Phase Change

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi all,

I am working on simulating layerwise additive manufacturing. During the process, there are two different solid phases, the powder and the bulk material Phase. Once the powder was melted, it won't return to the powder Phase but to bulk material Phase.

I tried to implement this behaviour by using the previous solution operator and tracking the maximum temperature for every element. Once the maximum temperature reaches the Liquidustemperature, a step function changes the properties form powder to bulk.

The variable (PorS) tracking the temperature doesn't do what it's meant to do and adopts very high values (1E7) Event he temperature is ca. 2000 K.

0=PorS-nojac(T>PorS, T, PorS)

with Initial value 273 K.

Discretization ist quadratic lagrange.

Has anyone an idea why this won't work?

Thank you!
