Meshing high aspect ratio objects

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi All,
I am trying to model a single unit of a counter-flow heat exchanger. The channels are half circles with diameter of 1 cm. If the length is short (<10 cm) comsol does fine. If the length increases then things start looking weird and comsol has errors in building the mesh. Any ideas on what might be going on and how I might address it?

The attached pic shows a 5 cm long channel on the left and a 20 cm long channel on the right.

Thank you,
Bryan

Hello Bryan,
High aspect ratio geometries like yours are prime candidates for swept meshing.
See Reference Manual for COMSOL Multiphysics, version 5.2a, Chapter 8.
Best,
Jeff
