Modelling an inductive sensor

I have chosen to simulate an inductive sensor for my 3rd year mini project in engineering. I plan to model a coil that is excited using current and the magnetic field produced interacts with metal debris of nanoparticle size that is present in oil transmission.
Can you give me suggestion on producing this magnetic field? As to the geometry I have modelled a helix with zero axial radius, I have doubts on the physics because I am having errors with convergence.
Thanking you in advance!
