[COMSOL 4.3a] How to set initial stress and strain in Solid Mechanics module?

When I double-click "Linear Elastic material", there is only "Damping" option, no "Initial stress and strain" option. Is there a way to set initial stresses and strains?

Hi,

It sounds like you do not have the Structural Mechanics Module license active.

To see how different features are licensed, please visit

Dear Mr. Sönnerlind, thank you for you reply.

I do have Structural Mechanics Module license active and I can use it for calculations. The only thing missing is initial stress and strain setting.

Hi,

Go to Options->Licenses and check the status of the 'Structural Mechanics Module' check box.

With Structural Mechanics Module license on, there should be three sub-options when right-clicking Linear Elastic Material:

- Thermal Expansion
- Initial Stress and Strain
- Damping

If you add the Damping node, there should be four different choices in the 'Damping type' list. Without the license, there is only one.

Henrik
