COMSOL PML Formulation

I presume COMSOL uses coordinate stretching for PMLs. However, I am bit confused with the Polynomial and Rational stretching used in COMSOL. In literature, the standard coordinate stretching PML is represented by an absorbing function with an end-value. Can some one please explain how COMSOL uses coordinate stretching? Which is the absorbing function? The equations provided in the documentation are not very clear. Thanks.
