about the model of scatter on substrate in RF model

Among the optical scattering model folder inside the wave optics models of comsol, there is a model called scatter on substrate. In this model, it first solved the electromagnetic waves, frequency 1 for the back scattering field, and then sovled the full electromagnetic waves. When computed, there are solution1 and solution 2 inside the Data sets of the Results. What is the difference between the solution 1 and solution 2? I was puzzled by the page 22 of the model document.
