How to get the effective wave vector in infinite PhC

1.In the model "Bandgap Analysis of a Photonic Crystal", we use a set of wave vector to calculate the eigen-frequency, when loss is introduced (example: metal) ,how can I get the effective wave vector (and refractive index) from a set of frequency?
2.For the same photonic crystal pattern, E(k,r,t)=exp(ik·r-wt)E(k,r) according to Bloch theorem. How to get E(avg)=∫∫E(k,r)/Area(integrate in the whoel cellular) using frequency as independent variable?

Sincerely
