Averaging over frequencies - into a variable

I'm looking to define a variable that will hold the average (or integration) over a frequency range (freq) for a given solution. For instance, by solving a frequency domain problem I get a solution (say solid.disp) which is actually a 'list' containing solutions for all calculated frequencies. I would like to have a single variable that will be the average of that list, so I can use it as an optimization goal.
Any ideas?
How do I integrate or calculate an average of a solution over frequencies (and not over spatial dimensions)?
Thank you
