Importing CAD geometry created with Rhyno

We create our CAD models using Rhino and the FEA we do it with COMSOL, therefore we have to import the CAD models in COMSOL. The CAD model from Rhino is exported to step or igis format and then loaded into COMSOL. There are a few problems we get when we import the CAD model, mainly related to the nodes accuracy or long lines that intersect. We create the geometry and generate the unions in Rhinos, then the entire geometry si loaded in COMSOL. It seems that the intersection between the CAD objects has some problems with accuracy. My questions are :
1. How to cope with the accuracy in Rhino such that the problems with importing the CAD model in COMSOL will be diminished ?
2. It is better to import the solids we create in Rhino direct in COMCOL and there to create the unions ? It would be better to create a java script that control this unions and uses the COMSOL API ?
3. We use the nurbs features of Rhino. We know that with nurbs we have problems that the entire surface is not continuous. We construct a sailboat hull using nurbs in Rhino and it can be that we need to created using more surfaces.
Also we want to introduce a quality model checking for the models we want to export from Rhino. Have some one of you experience with these quality models ? Any help is appreciated !!
Thank you,
Ion
