'Compute differential' in harmonic perturbation

I'm having trouble understanding the 'compute differential' option for harmonic perturbation. The help documentation "the differential of the expression with respect to the perturbation is computed and evaluated at the linearization point." What does it mean?
For example, I'm trying to find the frequency response of a polarized (with a DC bias) MEMS resonator by evaluating the output current at the sense electrode. The resonator is actuated capacitively by a ac voltage (harmonic perturbation) on the drive electrode.
Does 'compute differential' mean to compute the differential of the current w.r.t. the input voltage or frequency or something else?
