No main menu in Ubuntu 13.10

Hi all,
I had a working Comsol 4.3 install under Ubuntu 13.04

Now I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10, and the main menu at the top of the screen in Comsol does not work any more.
I do see: file, edit, view, etc... but there is no drop-down menu when those are clicked.
By googling I found that this issue affects many other applications also.

Anyone know of a fix?

thanks,
Anders

I found a solution here:
stackoverflow.com/questions/19452969/menu-in-eclipse-does-not-work-ubuntu-13-10

If I run:
export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0
comsol

then I get the menus at the top of the comsol window (not at the top of the screen like previously) and they work.
