While solving solid mechanics problem involving contacts, does dimensions of geometry and curvature of contacting bodies have effect on solving and convergence?.

For example, I modeled a half spherical hollow dome, fixed its annular flat surface; created half sphere contacting the dome at top (2D axisymmetric) and applied displacement, material for both was linear elastic. When applied displacement value exceed certain value, I do not get convergence for all steps ( I have applied auxillary sweep in solver).

Also, does step size in auxillary sweep affect convergence?

In short, yes, the curvature (and mesh) will affect convergence, as will the step size.

Based on first order estimates, is the deformation you are seeing going to take your material past it's elastic limit?

Yes, deformation is plastic, large strains are occuring
