Electric point dipole source in 2D electromagnetic simulation nx, ny but not nz direction option?

The below post is related to an archived discussion

The direction of an electric dipole source in a 2D simulation appears to be restricted to the nx and ny directions in the "Dipole parameters" section. The nz direction resulting in Ez (perpendicular to plane of problem) is also of interest. Is nz direction or Ex field not available in 2D simulation due to the nature of the simulation implementation?
