Heat transfer in porous media, solids and fluids

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello everyone,

I'm currently struggling to couple the heat transfer between three different mediums: the soil (porous media), solid and fluid, as I would like to study the heat exchange in a borehole exchanger where water flows in a pipe with walls of polyethylen and a filling of concrete, all surrounded by porous soil material.

I'm able to have a heat exchange between the water and the solid (polyethylen and concrete), but I do not know how I can have a heat transfer between the soil and solid parts and thus would like to know how that can be done.

I can assign the soil to be a solid, but that is not what I want as I further would like to implement the Darcy flow modul as well.

I really would appreciate any help!

Best, Matthias

P.S. Unfortunately I'm not able to include my file as the size is too big even after optimising the file size.

Hi Matthias,

for BHEs please look at the following resources:

Hi Sven,

thank you very much for your fast answer.

I've already had a look at both example you sent, but both do not fulfill my goals of modelling the water flow in the pipe and the heat transfer between the water and the solids, as well as between the solids and the soil media in order to gain an in-depth understanding of the heat exchange between the water and the soil along the borehole length. As I would like to compare the results of the model with several online measurements in the soil.

Therefore I would appreciate any help regarding the questions I asked above or an alternative way that could fulfill my expactations.
