Using Update Solution

Hello,
I'm trying to use the 'Update Solution' feature for the first time instead of using 'Compute solution' and am struggling to find resources on the error message I am receiving. It reads: "Cannot update a solution without a reference to a study step".
I am trying to set up an integration in my second study step (transport of diluted species) and have tried to click study1>update solution, and right click 'step2 - (tds)'>update solution. Both approaches provide the same error message given above.
Can anyone tell me where I reference the study step that I'd like to update?
