2D axisymmetric / 3D meshing

Howdy!

I am trying to do a simple simulation, inspired by your water glass www.comsol.com/showroom/gallery/195/ , to try and learn how to use COMSOL.

I am currently modeling a 2D axisymmetric closed cylinder of water, where the upper and under cap are subjected to a constant temperature differential, and the lateral area is insulated.

When trying to mesh, I set the mesh as delaunay triangulation, and it fills the cylinder nicely. I can produce an image of the mesh, superimposed over the temperature field, in a time dependent study, as a vertical slice.

However, I would like to have a better understanding on how COMSOL does the meshing and on how it meshes the rest of the cylinder. Specifically, how is the mesh created when seen from a horizontal slice, and how does the solution obtained from a 3D setup differ from one coming from a 2D asymmetrical setup.
