How to couple immersed beam with surrounding fluid in 3D

Dear all,
I want to simulate the fluid-structure interaction between an immersed steel frame and the surrounding fluid in 3D. The steel frame is modeled by beam element. Comsol would not allow this FSI coupling because fluid is 3D and the steel frame composed by beam element is essentially 1D. Is there any workaround except for modeling the steel frame as a solid structure? I want to avoid using solid since the frame is very thin thus the fluid mesh around it may have poor geometry.
