simulating a moving body in a flowing field

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

hello,
I need to simulate flowing compressible or incompressible fluid in a circular pipe, containing solid bodies moving by the drag force deduced by the fluid. The diameter of the bodies is the same magnitude of the pipe diameter and of course something like particles simulation won't fit. In addition the bodies are applying force against the flow field.
I have tried Using "linear elastic material model" with "fluid structure interactions". But there are several problems:

1) After the body is moving some distance inside the pipe the solver cannot converge and crushes.

2) If I'm building a curved pipe, than when the body touches the wall the solver crushes

I have tried changing the mesh and limit the time steps but there was no improvement.

thanks
roi
