I just received an email for a free workshop on COMSOL Multiphysics Version 4.2 at montreal in one week. We should receive the cd soon!

I think it has something to do with Matlab/java heap space. My computer is a Dell Latitude XT2, Duo CPU @1.60 GHZ, 2.95Gb of RAM.
However, I was able to run COMSOL 4.1 Matlab Live link quite successfully for my optimization applications, although it is a bit slow, occasionally with Java out of heap error.
When I start 4.2 Matlab LiveLink, it has the following errors:
"C:\COMSOL42\bin\win32\comsolserver.exe matlab
COMSOL 4.2 (Build: 171) started listening on port 2036
Use the console command 'close' to exit the application
Opening log file: C:\DOCUME~1\XIAOPI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\java.log.3792
ERROR: Could not start COMSOL Application. See log file: C:\Documents and Settings\XiaoQian\.comsol\v42\logs\server5.log"

The error file java.log.3792 shows the following
"Error occurred during initialization of VM

c:\COMSOL42\mli\startup\java.opts
You can open the file in an editor and change the settings.
You could try with these settings:
-Xss4m
-Xmx512m
-XX:MaxPermSize=128m
or even lower numbers.
You have to restart Comsol with Matlab after having changed the java.opts file.

It appears I am having a problem using COMSOL 4.2 with MATLAB R2011a on a MacBook Pro running OSX. Whenever I run the program (so that the server is running with MATLAB and the COMSOL window is not open) MATLAB gets really slow (most noticeable with simply trying to scroll. It takes multiple seconds to start scrolling then just jumps down to where it should've gone. I can't imagine what else is slowing down because of it, but I know my simulation is much slower as well.
Both COMSOL and MATLAB work just fine separately. Is there something that the LiveLink could be doing that's slowing both/MATLAB down? This didn't/doesn't happen with 4.1 when I use it, but I have some new models that only work in 4.2 so I have no choice here. Any help is appreciated thank you.
