The Formula of Maxwell Surface Stress Tensor

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi everyone!

I'm calculate the Maxwell surface stress tensor of a particle over a surface in a pure electric filed.

Form the definition:

While there are only electric field:

Thus, Maxwell surface stress tensor, z component should be:

Then, I input the equation in comsol as:

es.Exes.Eznx+es.Eyes.Ezny+(es.Ez^2-1/2(es.Exnx+es.Eyny+es.Eznz)^2)nz)

But when I compared it with the built-in function es.unTz. The value is different. And maye be relative with the permittivity of the materials of my particle.

Is there anyone that already tried to computer the electrostatic force by COMSOL with good results?

Has anyone an idea about formula of the Maxwell stress tensor?

Thank you very much to everyone will give some suggestions.
