A question on the contact problem

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi folks,

When I read the contact problem on the comsol manuals, I had this understanding: only the destination domain receives the contact pressure and friction, but not for the source domain. Is that correct? If it is right, then it means that the source domain is not subject to the contact forces. This is against the Newton's third law of motion.

I appreciate any help from you.

Thanks,
Jifeng

Hi

I do not believe so.

The contact force goes, for me, between the two parts in equal but opposite directions.
Otherwise you will not have the coservation of forces.

But its true that you have a variable that allows you to add some "initial" contact pressure, defined on one boundary, to allow to define a direction in an unambiguous way

Good luck
