Uniformity through Standard Deviation

I have a hard time understanding how to do the following:
- Calculate the standard deviation of the temperature on a edge/surface (2D/3D) in order to evaluate the temperature uniformity at that edge/surface.
I created a "Edge 2D" data set. From this I could easily create a second data set to get the Average but I would like to calculate the Standard Deviation.
Do I need to create another data set which is Integrating?
I don't understand how I can get the Square value of the values on my Edge 2D data set in order to integrate and divide by the length of this edge?
I thought it would be simpler to go in MATLAB and just use the std(x) standard deviation function but even after reading the LiveLink and API documentation, I still can't figure how to re-import a M-file into COMSOL (I don't have the option to open a .m file).
Any thoughts to point me in the right direction?
