How COMSOL calculates coils cross section?

Hello,

I am wondering how COMSOL calculates the cross section area of coil geometries. If I set for example a cylinder in COMSOL as a homogenized multi-turn coil, I am given the option to set the coil geometry. In there I can select the edge to set the direction of the rotation of the current. I have noted that the area that COMSOL calculates as the cross sectional area of the coil doesn't correspond to the actual area cross sectional of half the cylinder. I am wondering then how COMSOL calculates this value?

I know there is an option in coil geometry where I can override the default calculated cross-sectional area or use a multiplication factor to use in the right value in the geometry (which seems to be about 4 for cylinders). I have not been able to figure out how comsol calculates this area, I guess it changes according to the geometry? could it be that comsol can't recognize a cylinder as a proper geometry for a coil?

I do have the same doubt. But how to include the domains instead of including edges because in my problem the coil is wounded around the whole cylinder not along the edges. And btw how did you calculate the multiplication factor. Can you give me an about that?
