Meshing a 3D model from a 2D mesh.

Hi!

I'm working on a project that uses a 2D model as base of the 3D, using the Wave Optics Module.
I'd like to import the 2D Mesh in my 3D model, modeling first a 2D plane. From this plane, I'd like to extrude the mesh, forming that way a 3D geometry inheriting the 2D mesh.

Is it possible? If so, how can I do this?

I tried do this, but I couldn't extrude first the 2D mesh without an existing geometry.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.
