Dirichelet boundary coditions settings

Hi all,
Pls if some one can help, my question is:
In dirichelet boundary conditions to set a certain valuer for a certain surface (face) of the geometric model the program itself divides the geometric model to a certain number of surfaces (faces) each face can be selected and set to the appropriate value chosen for example the sphere is divided automatically to 8 parts, is this number can be changed, i mean can i make the sphere for example to be divided to more parts or this number is fixed?
