Modeling Magnetostrictive Material-Based Energy Harvesting Devices - Archived
Join us for a live webinar to learn about how the COMSOL Multiphysics® software is being used to model energy harvesting devices based on magnetostrictive materials. Dr. Sushma Santapuri, associate professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, will present her work integrating a COMSOL simulation model with a nonlinear constitutive model of a cubic magnetostrictive material — Galfenol, an alloy of iron and gallium. She will discuss how electromagnetics and structural mechanics have been coupled with material constitutive equations to perform this simulation.
As a specific example, Dr. Santapuri will demonstrate how to model a novel energy harvesting device based on magnetostrictive materials with a closed flux path. She will also compare the simulation results for voltage and power output with the experimental findings.
This webinar will conclude with a Q&A session.

Speaker
Dr. Sushma Santapuri is an associate professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where she has worked since July 2016. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, Santapuri worked as a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and as an assistant professor at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. She received her PhD in mechanical engineering from The Ohio State University in 2013 and B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 2007.
Santapuri's research is focused on mechanics of electromagnetoelastic materials, soft active materials, and their applications to soft robotics, sensor and actuator devices, and energy harvesting. She has authored more than 20 international journal and conference publications, two book chapters, and 1 patent (pending). She is also a recipient of the Kusuma Young Faculty Incentive Fellowship at IIT Delhi, the Mobile2Be award by the European Commission, and a University Fellowship at The Ohio State University.
